Jeannie M. Leonard, Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent with North Carolina Cooperative Extension's Davidson County center, recently received the 2009 Professional of the Year Award from the North Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences at their annual state meeting which was held in Winston-Salem. The Professional Award recognizes outstanding performance and service in the field of Family and Consumer Sciences.
 
Leonard, who has been with the Davidson County Center of the NC Cooperative Extension since 2003 has received several other awards in past years from the NC Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
·         In 2004, she received the Early Career Award. In 2006, she was honored for her work with the youth of Davidson County with the Youth Award.
·         In 2007, both the Davidson County 4H and Family and Consumer Sciences Departments were given the Community Partnership Award for their work with the yearly “Chef and the Child” summer program.
·         In 2008, she was the first agent to receive the Dr. Sandra Zaslow FCS Professional Development Award- and it is given to an outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent who exemplifies the ideals demonstrated by Dr. Zaslow throughout her career.
·          She also received a team Communication Award for Extension’s Successful Family newsletter, which written by a team of 48 NC Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Education Agents. This newsletter informed and educated 30,638 families on issues that affect them and provided ideas for helping them improve their quality of life
